The shape of things to come…..
SS’19 brings a whole new direction for James Lakeland with a focus on natural, neutral fabrics and colour tones. As always tailoring and cut is quintessential to the collection, however this season there is more of a focus on soft, delicate lines.
Adding a crisp, refined edge to the collection, the cotton used is a high thread count Italian selection, making it slightly more rigid in appearance. This creates simple silhouettes, whilst adding details such as deep side pockets, give each piece a sharp individuality.
Taking inspiration from natural, organic light, the collection encapsulates pure Italian linens in relaxed shapes to project chic aspects that are easy to wear.
Linen’s wearable nature means it can be transformed into a myriad of product types, from lightweight tops and dresses to structured blazers and suits.
Linen is a Summer friendly fabric which allows the skin to breathe. Therefore, linen clothes feel both cool to wear and to the touch on a hot day or balmy night. In cold weather, surprisingly, linen also retains warmth, perfect for the cooler summer nights.
Linen is made from flax and is the only plant-textile fibre originating in Europe, and one of the few crops still produced in Western Europe. The linen we use at James Lakeland comes from renowned, ancient old mills in remote regions of Italy.
Suit it UP
The tailored suit makes its appearance in demure, soft natural tones and lines. Subtle stripes in linens using faint greys, beige and blues with three quarter sleeves and large, loose lapels gives this season look a softer more feminine, fluid edge.
A prevalent trend for 2019 are the culottes. The billowing short trousers perfectly flatter all shapes and their versatility allows for a range of outfit possibilities. Pairing these crop loose-fit pants with fitted shirts, cotton t-shirts or loose fitted sweaters gives a different look each and every time.
No matter the season, stripes have stood the test of time. The humble, simple stripe has transcended the trend stratosphere as it proves to have mileage way beyond the seasonal circuit. So how should you wear stripes now? Take and leap of faith and try swapping your go-to jeans for a stripe culotte or pinstripes suit or your t-shirt for a simple shift dress, the options are endless….
Organic Colour Palette
James Lakeland has always focused each collection on colour and print. Whilst this season is no exception, there is also an emphasis on a more natural, organic colour palette, using softer tones of beiges and whites.
This season we’ve injected a touch of dainty glamour with ditsy floral prints, using fresh colour tones. This adds to the softer edge of the collection, combined with fluid fabrics of matching loose fit shirts and pants, capturing a chic yet low-key demeanor.
And finally….a splash of bold, bright and breezy
